SKColt's Story

I work in the television news industry. I have used (or abused) my media credentials to snag rides aboard several vintage aircraft including a B-17G, a SNJ-6 Texan trainer, and a Dehavilland fighter trainer. I have three wonderful children, and a wife who is very tolerant of flight operations with SKBG.

My love of flying began at a very early age. My dad owned a 1946 Piper J series aircraft. He and my uncle taught flying at a local airfield. I still have vivid memories of flying on my uncle's lap in the Piper as a very young child. During this period, my brother Jim was serving as a B-52 crewmember, with several tours in Southeast Asia. I remember spending most of a summer at the newly renamed Grissom Air Force base at Peru Indiana. I saw many B-52's being deployed, and returning from overseas operations. Currently my nephew Ed is carrying on the family tradition, having earned pilot ratings up to and including Instrument, Commercial, and Instructor ratings. He is currently teaching flight at the same field my dad and uncle taught at in the 50s and early 60s! I am VERY slowly working on a private ticket with my nephew. At my current schedule, I hope to get my private license before I retire!

I began flying online in the Air Warrior Compuserve closed beta. I was a member of a group that actively participated in many beta tests of the newly emerging online games including Multiplayer Battletech, and of course Air Warrior. After the AW beta, the group moved on. I however, was hooked. That is how I began my current ten years of online flying. I initially joined a RR squad, Special Ops. During that period, I met Ken Sr., who taught me the important aspects of B-17 operations. I gunned for him quite frequently. I still miss the “Deathstar” flights, with Ken SR.'s B-17 fully loaded with gunners.

I left the Special Ops squad, and joined ACCS, flying with the likes of Wedge and Mage. I never went back to RR arenas at that point. During my tenure with ACCS, I began gunning for Denny frequently. I soon realized that Denny and I formed a formidable team. The more I learned about the SkyKnight squad, the more interested I became. I left ACCS, and joined SkyKnights about a year before Air Warrior folded. I feel I have finally found my online home, flying and gunning with SKBG.

From the -CO-... Colt is continually one of the leading killers of this squad. Not bad for a guy who rarely even starts the engines! His ability to calculate deflection at long ranges is amazing... if I could only get this dweeb in a fighter... sigh.
