Randy "SKRad1" Allen

SKRad1's Story

RaD1 (aka Randy Allen) born in 1965, grew up in Roswell, New Mexico. Yes, that very famous place in the desert.... but I can't talk about that. In 1992 I joined the US Air Force. That is where I truly fell in love with aviation.

Stationed at Moody AFB GA, I met a few guys that had computers that "Flew" these "Flight Sims". Curiosity got the best of me and a friend showed me "Aces of the Pacific"! Wow! That was pretty cool. Within the month I went a bought my first computer, (a 486sx25! and I was the talk of the town with that NEW computer!) just so I could play a flight sim.

I soon was playing Falcon 3.0 and X-Wing Fighter! Not long after that, a field engineer from Raytheon invited me to his apartment, his wife made us some Lumpia (a type of egg roll) and he showed me Air Warrior! WOW!! That was really Cool!

About two years later, I had purchased a newer computer, and now, I had an internet connection! I surfed the net and found Air Warrior. I downloaded the game and practiced off line for about a week or two. When I finally worked up the courage to get online I got in a Spitty 9 and took off! Cool!

I was up flying around, and I saw this guy with a Green Icon "Hmmm he must be a friendly" flying a P-38. He was in trouble as he had a "Red.. That must be a bad guy" right on his tail. I had Altitude, and speed. I made a right hand diving turn and Popped the red guy! The guy in the P-38 started typing to me. He told me "Thanks, you really saved my bacon back there, you interested in joining a squad?" I typed back, "Squad?" he replied " Ya , my Callsign is Alpo, I fly with the Sky Knights...." and the rest is history!

I have YET to save Alpo's bacon like that again! (now I just figure, hell... he got himself into that mess... he can get himself out!)

I now live in Atlanta Georgia, Fly Aces High and Falcon 4.0 regularly.

From the -CO-... Ahh, newbies... once you get them hooked they can never escape. Little does Rad1 know I was simply setting up that bandit, as everyone knows the tricks a P38 could do in AW. I figured, let the new guy steal the kill, stroke his ego a little and boom, I've filled my monthly recruitment quota.
