SkyKnights - Fighter Training Page

Welcome to the SK Fighter Training Page

"Mainly it's my wingman's eyes that I want. One man cannot see enough. When attacked I want first for him to warn me, then for him to think. Every situation is different and the wingman must have initiative and ability to size up the situation properly and act accordingly. There is no rule of thumb for a wingman... The wingman's primary duty is protection of his element leader. It takes the leader's entire attention to destroy an enemy aircraft... Good wingmen, smart wingmen, are the answer to a leader's prayers."

Lt. Colonel John C. Meyer, USAAF

On the left side of this page you will note links to several resources I find to be extremely useful in the day to day flight of a fighter in Aces High.

The SkyKnight Fighters should always work with a wingman. The leader can be predetermined or selected after launch. The leader's primary responsibilities are navigation over the bombers, attack planning, and keeping an eye on the six of his wingman.

The wingman flies a formation with the leader (usually Line Abreast) maintaining a watchful eye on the rear hemisphere of the leader, maintaining a position to assist the leader should the need arise. What this means is simple... the Section leader is not the ONLY shooter. Wingmen have an equal part in all combat. This does not mean forming a "conga line" chasing a bandit. If one plane in the section is firmly saddled up on a bandit, the other pilot becomes high cover and should something happen where the primary pilot loses advantage or misses his opportunity, the wingman is in position to keep the enemy plane in a defensive posture through the entire fight. Communication is the KEY!!
